Its October, and that means its also Wool Month! Our annual chance to celebrate one of the most sustainable, resilient and beautiful fibres that is provided by nature. This year celebrates 15 years since the start of Campaign for Wool, initiated by the Patron, HM King Charles III.
What is wool month?
Wool month is the annual celebration held in every October, to promote the benefits, sustainability and versatility of wool. Focusing on natural fibres like those from sheep and to raise awareness among consumers and brands to choose wool over synthetic fibres.
Wool Month is organised by Campaign for Wool and national wool boards and highlights wool's role in slow fashion and sustainable living. Including innovation across fashion and interiors.
Benefits of Wool
- Durable and resilient - Wool fibres are actually elastic and resist sagging and wrinkling and will hold shape overtime.
- Hypoallergenic - wool resists dust mites and mildew which are common triggers for allergies.
- Temperature regulating - keeps cool in the summer and warm in the cooler months. Wool breaths well, making it comfortable to use year round.
- Fire resistant - wool is naturally flame retardant, making it one of the safest fabric for upholstery.
- Stain resistant - wool is naturally resistant to stains due to natural wax in the fibres and liquid tends to bead up rather than absorb
